Brief description about the institutions established in Assam under the leadership of the Bordoloi Ministry

The Bordoloi Ministry played an important role in developing higher education and medical facilities in Assam. The major institutions connected with his ministry are:
(i) Assam Agricultural University (AAU): The Assam Agricultural College at Jorhat and the Veterinary College at Nowgong were established in 1948 during the Bordoloi Ministry. These colleges later became part of Assam Agricultural University in 1969. Although the university was formed later, the first steps for it were taken under Bordoloi’s leadership.
(ii) Gauhati University: Gauhati University was established on 26 January 1948 under the Gauhati University Act of 1947. It was the first university of North-East India. At the beginning, it had 17 affiliated colleges and 8 postgraduate departments. The university later moved to its present campus in 1955–56, an area now known as Gopinath Bordoloi Nagar.
iii) Assam Medical College: Assam Medical College at Dibrugarh was formally established on 3 November 1947 by the Bordoloi Ministry. It developed from the earlier Berry-White School of Medicine (1900), started with a donation from Dr. John Berry White. After World War II, it shifted to a new campus used by the US Army and became the first medical college in North-East India.
