Though a challenging task, it is possible to control desertification through measures like afforestation, rainwater harvesting, prevention of soil erosion, construction of artificial irrigation systems, extension of canal systems into semi-arid regions, etc. Since it is not one nation’s problem, it must be tackled on a global basis. As desertification is associated with global warming, measures to reduce global warming will definitely lead to a decrease in the process of desertification.
