Assam is home to many tribes, communities, cultures, and religions. The main religions are Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Animism. Even though there are many religions and groups, Assam is known for religious harmony.
Most people in Assam are Hindus, but they follow different Hindu sects like Sakta, Shaiva, Vaishnava, and Saurya. All these sects have different rituals, but their basic beliefs are similar, so there is no major conflict among them. The famous Kamakhya Temple near Guwahati is an important Hindu pilgrimage site.
People belonging to other religions like Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Buddhists also live peacefully in Assam. Therefore, Assam is known for unity and peaceful co-existence among different religions.
