The three major contributions of the Swadeshi Movement are:
(i) The Swadeshi Movement gave rise to the armed revolutionary movement in India. Inspired by intense patriotism, some groups of activists began to believe that violent methods were necessary to challenge British rule.
(ii) The movement helped Indians understand the power of mass participation. People realised that when large sections of the population unite for a common cause, a movement becomes strong and has a real chance of success. This was an important political lesson for ordinary Indians.
(iii) The Swadeshi Movement also gave Indians the courage to demand Swaraj (self-rule). The strong spirit of nationalism it created pushed the Indian National Congress, for the first time, to formally raise the proposal of Swaraj during its Calcutta session in 1906, under the leadership of Dadabhai Naoroji.
